Doctors

DR MAMMEN NINAN

GP Partner, MBBS MRCP MRCGP DRCOG

Dr Ninan is a GP with Special Interest in Cardiology and holds his clinics here. He also undertakes Minor Surgery inc. steroid injections and ingrowing toenail removal. Dr Ninan is also a Medical Undergraduate & Postgraduate Trainer. Dr Ninan is also GP Clinical Lead for Stroke Prevention for Lancashire & South Cumbria.

DR MOHAMMED UMER

GP Partner, MBChB BSc MRCGP DROG

Dr Umer has an interest in Palliative Care. He is also Chair of Local Primary Care (Federation of general practices in Blackburn with Darwen).

DR JANE KILLALEA

GP Partner MBChB MRCGP

Dr Killalea graduated from Liverpool University in 2005 and completed my GP training in Merseyside in 2010. She joined the practice in 2014 and have interests in child health surveillance and women's health.

DR QASHUF HUSSAIN

GP Partner, Dr Hussain is a GP Trainer and is a Primary Care Medical Educator on the East Lancashire GP Training programme and is working across Blackburn with Darwen as a Health Inequality Lead.

DR SAFWAAN HAFEZ

GP Partner MB ChB 2011

Dr Hafez joined the practice in March 2019 and became GP Partner October 2019. He is our Medicines Lead, Complaints Lead, Audits Clinical Workflow and is also an FY2 Trainer. He works at the practice 4 days a week.

DR JILL DAVIES

GP Partner MBChB DRCOG DFSRH

Dr Davies graduated from the University of Manchester in 2005. She completed her GP training in Manchester and worked there for several years before working for the extended access service in Blackburn with Darwen from 2016. She has interests in frailty and medical education

Partner at Darwen Healthcare, having taken up the role on April 1st, 2025. I first joined the practice in 2021 as a GP trainee and, after completing my training, continued as GP from February 2022. My clinical interests include research, medical education, geriatrics, and intermediate care. I serve as the clinical research lead for the practice, a GP trainer, and an educational facilitator for the East Lancashire GP training program and clinical lead for the Albion Mill Rehabilitation Facility in Blackburn. I also undertake steroid joint clinics in Darwen

DR AKRAM ALZAMANI

MD (Doctor of Medicine) MRCGP

Dr Alzamani graduated from medical school in 2002 and started practising in NHS from 2011 first with Acute care (A & E) experience followed by GP training in Bolton. Her interests are mental health and child health; Dr Alzamani is planning to expand her skills and knowledge in managing diabetes and skin diseases.

I graduated from medical school in 2013 and completed training locally in East Lancashire. I have interest in women's health

DR MOTUNRAYO ALO

Dr Mo Alo Graduated from medical school in 2009. Joined Darwen healthcare in August 2021 as GPST3. Her interests are child health and women's health

DR JUDITH PERERA

Dr Perera joined the team after completing her training at Darwen Healthcare.. She graduated from Medical School in 2017. Her interests are skin diseases, mental health and general patient education

DR LIBBY MEREDITH

Dr Meredith graduated from medical school in 2010 and completed her GP training in East Lancashire in 2020. She has interests in frailty, palliative care and lifestyle medicine. Dr Meredith is also trained in steroid joint injections.

DR FUZAIL NAWAB

MBBS, BSc (Hons), DipMSKMed, MRCGP

Dr Nawab graduated from Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry in 2018. He completed his GP training in East Lancashire, undertaking his ST3 year at Darwen Healthcare, and joined the practice as a GP in March 2025. His clinical interests include occupational medicine and medical education.

Female

Joined in August 24 as GP ST2.

DR MUHAMMAD HUSSAIN

I am a 2020 Graduate of the University of Manchester. I am particularly interested in Dermatology and also Child Health. In my own time I enjoy the laid-back approach of reading and video gaming!

DR SA'AD DAYAJI

I joined in August 2025 as ST3 after graduating from University of Leicester in 2019. My interests are MSK and medical education

Clinical Associates

Clinical Assistants are Health Professionals who have received intensive training in other types of clinical practice. They have then undertaken further intensive training to allow them to compliment the range of skills within general practice

JULIA MULLANEY

Advanced Nurse Practitioner

Julia is our Advanced Nurse Practitioner and works alongside our GPs in our on the day surgeries. Julia does home visits most mornings. Julia also sees patients with Chronic Diseases and is a mentor and Sign Off Mentor for Student Nurses and holds a Practice Teacher qualification.

SIMON HOLDEN

Paramedic Practitioner

Works Mon am & pm Wed to Friday am & pm Simon joined Darwen Healthcare as a Paramedic practitioner seeing patients in clinic, and doing home visits. Previously to this Simon has spent 15 years registered as a HCPC Paramedic with North West Ambulance service and has 19 years altogether experience working on an Emergency Ambulance. With range of clinical skills from basic observations to 12 lead ECG interpretation, cannulation to intubation, trauma management, emergency medical presentations, acute exacerbation of chronic conditions.

FAIZ MAJIID

Male

I am a Physician Associate qualified since 2019 as part of the second cohort to be trained in the northwest. I have a lot of experience in general practice and enjoy helping all my patients. I have extra experience with medicine for the elderly through my care home ward rounds which I do twice a week. I am a proud member of the Darwen Healthcare team and look forward to seeing how I can help you

VICTORIA ROBERTS

I am Vicky, the mental health practitioner based in the GP surgeries across Darwen. I am a mental health nurse, and my role is to triage, assess, complete formulations, support treatment plans and educate individuals on their mental health needs. I also support discharges from secondary care services, such as the community mental health teams, to reduce the risk of relapse in the community. You can access my appointments by contacting reception or speaking to your GP

ABHEER HASHMI

Clinical Pharmacist qualified since 2016. I have good experience working in primary care, with a diverse background spanning both community and hospital pharmacy. I have a passion for supporting patients in managing their health. I particularly enjoy working in primary care, where I focus on ensuring that medications are used safely and effectively to improve patient outcomes.

Practice Nurses

Our highly qualified nurses deal with a range of conditions and health concerns. They examine patients, make a diagnosis and plan care, including prescribing certain products.They are experts in many areas of disease management such as diabetes and asthma. They can be seen during normal surgery hours – by appointment where possible – and at specific clinics.

KATRINA MARGERISON

Works Monday am/pm Tuesday am/pm Thursday am/pm Katrina sees patients in clinic for Chronic Diseases such as Diabetes, Asthma, COPD, CKD, Childhood Vaccinations, Travel Immunisations and Cervical Screening. Katrina is also a mentor for Student Nurses.

KERRY NIELD

Kerry works Tuesdays - Fridays and see's patients for chronic disease management, cervical screening, vaccinations, spirometry, injectable treatments and has a special interest in diabetes.

ADEELA RIFAI

Adeela has clinics for Childhood vaccinations, Cervical screening, Hypertension, CKD, CHD, Prediabetes, LD reviews, Travel vaccine and Injectable treatments. Adeela has started her training in Diabetes

TERRI LIVESEY

Works Mon, Tues, Wed & Friday am & pm Terri is a Trainee Assistant Practitioner and hold clinics for Phlebotomy, Blood Pressures, Well Person Clinics, CKD monitoring, Asthma, COPD, Pre- Diabetes & Diabetes Clinics and completes weekly chronic disease home visits for house bound and care/nursing home patients.

ANN NEVILLE

Practice Business Manager

With over 35 years of management experience, including 20 years service in the NHS across various roles such as physiotherapy, Cancer Services, East Lancashire Hospice and Darwen Healthcare. Starting as a Customer Services Manager, I was promoted to Practice Manager and became the Business Manager in 2019. Within my role I am deeply committed to ensuring quality of care and fostering a positive working environment for staff, with strong emphasis on the importance of training and education within the Practice. I am also the Practice Manager Lead for Darwen Primary Care Network and joint strategic lead Pennine Lancashire Training Hub

KIM CUNNINGHAM

Deputy Practice Manager

With 28 years of experience in General Practice, I bring a wealth of knowledge and dedication to patient care and practice operations. I joined Darwen Healthcare in 2007 as a Medical Secretary, progressed to Corporate Governance Administrator, and was appointed Deputy Practice Manager in 2023. In my current role, I oversee the training and development of GP Trainees, Foundation Year Doctors, Medical Students, and Trainee Physician Associates, ensuring they receive a supportive and structured learning environment. I also serve as Deputy Complaints Manager, working to address patient concerns with empathy and efficiency. In addition, I lead our exceptional Secretarial team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment that supports the team.

CRAIG ROBERTSON

Finance Lead Craig assists the business manager with several financial elements within practice such as payroll, pensions, claims and has been with the practice for 8 years.

Practice Leads

NICHOLA WRIGHT

Nichola has worked for Darwen Healthcare since mid-1997. In her role as Quality Lead, she is responsible for overseeing the members of the administration/coding team and note summariser. Nichola is responsible for leading the practice’s data quality including QOF, CQRS, Enhanced Services, Local Improvement Schemes, new patient registrations, patient medical records and chronic disease/ vaccinations/cervical screening recall. She is also responsible for claims submissions, system searches, audit and reporting.

SUSAN TAYLOR

Patient Engagement Lead

Susan joined Darwen Healthcare in 2012 and is responsible for Palliative/EOL care, Patient Deaths, Safeguarding and she attends the Patient Participation Meetings. Susan is also responsible for attending MDT/INT Meetings and liaising with other Services to provide an efficient and quality service for our patients.

Reception

The Reception Team are the first point of contact for the Practice and can help you find out about the services we provide. They are trained in Care Navigation and can direct you to the most appropriate Clinician to meet your needs

Administration

We have administrative staff including receptionists, Secretary, Clerical Officers and Notes Summarisers. All staff have undergone training and are ready to help you at any time. They may need to ask you for further details when you telephone for medical advice. – This is to ensure we can assist you as speedily as possible. All staff are bound by the same rules of confidentiality.

Attached Staff

Attached to the practice, we have a Community Matron, District Nurses, Health Visitors, Midwifery Staff, a Counsellor, Alcohol Dependency Service, Practice Pharmacist and drug counselling service. The District Nurses can be contacted on Tel. 226785 – they have an answerphone and messages are picked up daily. The Health Visitors can be contacted on Tel. 226796 - they have an answerphone and messages are picked up daily. Access to all other attached staff is after consultation with a member of the clinical team.
